SAFETY INFORMATION FROM THE PROVIDENT LIVING COMMITTEE!

Energy Saving Bulbs have been in existence for a long time now. As the name indicates, these bulbs are more effective as compared to an ordinary bulb in terms of power consumption. Most of us are currently using these bulbs in order to save on electricity consumption and ultimately the electricity bill!

Energy Saving Bulbs will come in different shapes on the market with different ratings in terms of Voltage or Watts and they will definitely save our pockets especially that, we are buying electricity in our respective houses.

Some Health and Safety issues on these Low-Energy Light Bulbs

However these types of bulbs, if broken, cause serious danger.

  • If one breaks, everybody will have to leave the room for at least 15 minutes, because it contains Mercury (poisonous) which causes migraine, disorientation, imbalances and different other health problems when inhaled.
  • It causes many people with allergies, severe skin conditions and other diseases just by touching this substance or inhaling it.
  • Do NOT clean the debris of the broken bulb with a vacuum cleaner, because it would spread the contamination to the other rooms in the house when using the vacuum cleaner again. It MUST be cleaned up with a normal broom or brush, be kept in a sealed bag and disposed of right away from the house in a bin for hazardous materials.

Below is the advice on what to do if a Low-Energy bulb breaks be it at home or areas where these bulbs can be found:

  1. Evacuate the room, taking care not to step on the shards of glass littering the floor.
  2. Do Not use a vacuum cleaner to clear up the mess as the machines sucking action could spread toxic mercury droplets around the house.
  3. Put on rubber gloves and sweep the debris onto the dustpan.
  4. Place the remains in a plastic bag and seal it.
  5. Do Not put the plastic in a normal household bin, instead place it in a municipal recycling bin for battereis, which also contain mercury or take it to a council dump where it can be disposed of safely.
  6. Try not to inhale dust from the broken bulb.

BOOK GROUP INFORMATION

Sisters,

If you are new to the ward and haven't yet heard about the book group, we'd like to invite you to join us.  All sisters in the Centerton Ward are invited to attend.

Book Group is held the first Thursday of each month.  November Book Group will be held this Thursday at 8:30 pm at Megan Gibson's house (800 Harvest Street) in Centerton.  Alicia Hoyt will be leading a discussion on the book "These Is My Words."   Please come, even if you haven't read the book. The company and treats are always good!!

At the November book group, we will also be deciding what books we'd like to read and discuss in upcoming months.  We'd like to decide on at least 6 months worth of books, but more would be great!  Please come with ideas of books you'd like to read in future months.

Also, the Book Group needs a new leader. Responsibilities would include sending a monthly email to remind sisters of book group, making sure the book group information is posted on the Sisters First Blog, and coordinating discussion leaders and hosts.  You would not necessarily need to host a book group at your home or lead a discussion.  If you are interested in acting as leader of the Book Group, please contact Lacey Schofied at 685-7036 orlacey_schofield@yahoo.com

UPCOMING HUMANITARIAN SERVICE ACTIVITY

Due to the ever increasing number of expecting mommies in the ward, we are going to prepare freezer meals to help out the compassionate service leaders in our ward.  Of course these freezer meals can also be used for other families that you are aware of that need help and/or any of your neighbors as well (these meals could provide great missionary opportunities).

More details regarding this activity will be sent out soon, regarding prices and and any extra help in supplies we might need, but mark your calendars now for October 27, 2011 at the church from 7pm-8:30.  We are looking really forward to this activity and know that we all have the potential to help so many friends and neighbors!

CENTERTON LIBRARY INFORMATION

I just thought there might be some of you who would be interested in this bit of information.  The Centerton Mayor is  very interested in providing a public library but does not have the funds or means to do so right now.  He is working on getting some help from the Gravette Library.  Right now the idea is to have the Gravette Library provide a weekly book mobile at City Hall with plans for future expansion.  What I heard last was that the Mayor is conducting some sort of survey to make sure the desire for a public library is there.  If you are interested, make sure to take the opportunity to let your Mayor know.
