Subject: H1N1 Vaccine Now Widely Available

With H1N1 vaccine availability increasing, the CDC is now urging all priority groups to receive the vaccine. This includes the addition of anyone 5 through 24 years of age.

The priority groups are:

• Pregnant women
• People 6 months through 24 years of age
• People 25 through 64 years of age with high-risk health conditions
• Health care workers who provide direct patient care
• Close contacts of infants 6 months or older

The vaccine is free at public health departments and costs about $10 at local pharmacies and health care providers. My local health department asked that I spread the word widely that there are plenty of vaccines and the wait time is minimum if at all.

Money-Saving Tips for the New Year

Lose weight. Stop biting your fingernails. Read more books. Learn to knit.

If you're like most people, you're planning to ring in 2010 by making a slew of lifestyle changes. The great thing about a new year is that it gives you a fresh start. Maybe you didn't use that home gym as much as you wanted to in 2009, or maybe you didn't stick to that low-carb diet. A new year is a great opportunity to get back on track.

This year, as you gear up to say hello to 2010, don't forget about your finances. Spend a little time getting up-close and personal with your checkbook and make a plan to curb your spending and fatten up your savings account.

Don't know where to start? Read on for seven tips for a financially healthy 2010:

1. Avoid the mall. Seriously. As 2009 draws to a close, your favorite retailers will be running end-of-year clearance sales on everything from major appliances to winter coats. Unless you absolutely must have a new refrigerator, pass on the sales and put your extra money into your savings account instead.

2. Cut the cards. Got credit card debt? There's no time like the start of a new year to change your spending habits and start putting a dent in your debt. Make a resolution to start paying off your credit cards. And, more importantly, make a resolution to stop using your cards, period.

3. Start an emergency fund. Credit cards can be hard to cut when you use them for emergencies. So start an emergency fund! A good way to make sure that you don't have to rack up loads of credit card debt is to start socking money away for those unplanned emergencies. A good rule of thumb for most people is to have about three months' salary in a separate account. But, don't let that figure intimidate you: Decide what you can realistically put away, and go from there. If you start in January, you'll be surprised how quickly your money will add up.

4. Curb your impulses. From fancy cupcakes to fashion magazines, DVD rentals to fast food, everybody has a few inexpensive vices. But, these little luxuries can add up to a big drain on your wallet. The New Year is a great time to cut down on impulse purchases. Got a daily eating out habit? Kick it down to twice a week. Addicted to convenience foods? Make a lunch at home and brown bag it. You'll be surprised at how much you'll save.

5. Be a savvy shopper. Even the most financially savvy people in the world still have to go grocery shopping. But, there are dozens of ways to shop smarter in 2010 and stretch your dollar when stocking up on the necessities. Clip coupons and watch store circulars for double (or even triple) coupon events. Consider switching to store-brand items whenever possible. In most cases, they're just as good as the national brand and can save you some serious money. Also, get in the habit of making a list before you go out -- it'll help you stay focused and buy only what you need.

6. Check your credit. From helping you secure a home mortgage to, in some cases, landing a new job, your credit report is used in countless ways. All consumers are eligible for a free annual credit report from the three major credit bureaus: Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax. Start the New Year off right -- request a copy from each and read them carefully. Not only does this give you the chance to dispute errors, taking the time to check up on your credit can also alert you to fraudulent activities, like accounts you didn't open or charges you didn't make.

And finally, my most important tip for 2010:

7. Write a budget. And stick to it. Writing a budget isn't nearly as scary as it sounds. And, a budget is a great way to make sure that your finances stay on track in 2010. It's pretty easy: Start with your total monthly household income, then deduct your bills (like your rent or mortgage, utilities, car payments, etc.) and expenses (like gas and food). After that, decide how much you want to put in your savings account and how much will go to your emergency fund. And, don't forget to leave yourself a little fun money for the occasional restaurant meal or night at the movies. And remember to be flexible: If you find yourself a little strapped for cash after you've worked out your budget, don't ditch it altogether --make adjustments until you hit on a budget you can live with.

Making a few simple adjustments to your spending and saving habits can go a long way. Follow these tips and you'll be on the way to a financially secure new year.

A Christmas Baby

Tyler Steven Conn was born at 4:01 am on Christmas morning, weighing in at 7lbs, 2oz and measuring 19 1/2 inches.   Congratulations Jesse and Cassandra!!

Musical Light Display

Marty and Eric (Morrison) set up a fantastic musical light display on our house where the house lights up to the beat of Christmas music. This would greatly appeal to kids, and everyone would enjoy it. All you have to do is drive up to the house and tune your radio to 106.9 and you can hear themusic and watch the light display while staying warm and cozy in the car.Driving on the grass is fine as long as it's not too wet and slick. (Don't want anyone to get stuck). It will be particularly beautiful with snow on the ground.  I thought it might be nice "family time" with a Christmas entertainment flare.

We usually have the display running from 7:00-10:00 PM

Topic Pages are Web pages that explain specific gospel topics in a compelling, inviting, and easy-to-understand manner (see the Christmas topic page).

Both of these new resources are designed to be easy to share with friends and family via e-mail, Facebook, or other social media Web sites. If you would like to receive an e-mail notice whenever a new Mormon Message or Topic Page is posted:

Wheat for a Great Price

Through special arrangement, we obtained a supply of 270 5-gallon buckets fresh from the grower in Idaho. We are offering it at our cost of $20 per bucket. Each bucket comes with an oxygen absorber already inside.

My Yorkie male, 3 years old, needs a good home, free.


His name is Tommy Boy. He is a lovable dog. He has to be fed certain foods and takes medicine two times a day. The medicine costs only around ten dollars every three or four months. He is in good health. If you need more information, you can call Steven or Natalie 714 624 9379. They will be home around Dec 27th. If anyone wants to take the dog before, they can take him. I will really miss him a lot.

Ward Choir

The Ward Choir would like to invite anyone who enjoys singing Christmas songs, to practice with us in the Relief Society Room this Sunday (Dec 13th) at 9am. We will be singing in Sacrament Meeting the same day. The song is "Were you there on that Christmas Night?" It is written in 2 parts - with the men singing one part, and the women singing the other part. This is a great opportunity to share your talents and express your love of music by helping out the ward choir. Volunteer Opportunity at Elementary School

The CGE (Centerton Gamble Elementary) Winter Wonderland Workshop is this Friday! The kids are excited, Mrs. Walton has organized decorations made by the students, Santa is on his way, but we still need you.


Thank you to those of you who have already volunteered to assist with the event that will be held this Friday at CGE from 6-9 p.m. We'll be getting details out to you tomorrow.

Volunteers still needed
We are still in great need of volunteers to assist students at the craft tables from either 6-7:30 p.m. or 7:30-9 p.m. If you are available and can help, please respond to this e-mail as soon as possible and let us know the time slot you would like to volunteer. Every volunteer will receive one free meal.

Event details
Many students pre-ordered tickets, and we will have them available at a "will call" table at the door. If you did not pre-order, don't worry. You can still purchase as many tickets as you need to the night of the event. All crafts, meals (hot dog or chicken nuggets/strips, chips and a drink) and Santa photos are $2.50 each. There will also be a cookie decorating station for $1 per cookie.

In addition, we have approximately 10 merchants who will be at the event helping you take care of your holiday shopping. A minimum of 10% of all proceeds will be given to the PTO to benefit our students.

Divine Nature Value Project

We are doing a service project for Personal Progress, and all proceeds go to three families so we can buy them Christmas. We are selling homemade cinnamon rolls like we did for girls camp. They are $10 a dozen and $6 for a half dozen. We will have them sometime next week, not sure exactly when, but they will be available for pick-up at my house, or a dollar extra for delivery. We are in urgent need of people to participate on the Church float in the Bentonville Holiday Parade this Saturday December 5th. We will need lots of folks (families, too, with children over 5 years old) to sing Christmas Carols and others to represent Mary, Joseph, shepherds and wisemen (costumes will be provided.) Please join us!

We will meet between 10 and 10:30 am in the big Walmart parking lot next to the new Fire station on SW A St. We are in section B. Look for our Nativity float.

This would be a fun, wonderful opportunity to represent the church, wave to your friends and your neighbors along the parade route, and make a family memory. We need YOU!

Natvities Needed for the Chorale

I am the rep. in our ward for the Nativity displays at the Ozark Mormon Chorale. Since I am in Primary it is difficult to get into relief society to announce it and bring the sign up sheet. If there are any sisters who weren't able to sign up earlier they can contact me by phone 208-716-1989 or email abigailobell@gmail.com and sign up to bring a nativity set.  (For those of you who might be new this year, they need these nativities to be displayed in the gym.  They are on "loan" for 2 days, then you get them back. =)  Even if you don't have a nativity for them to use, you should check out the display... it's really amazing!)

It is going to be at the Rogers Stake Center. Drop off is Thursday Dec. 10 from 5 - 8:30 pm in the stake center gym and Pick up is Saturday Dec. 12 at 9 pm. Also they have asked that a few sisters from our ward volunteer to come to the stake center around 8:15 am on Friday the 11th to help with setting up the nativities and decorations. I am thinking that 4 or 5 sisters would be plenty. Please contact me if you are able to come and help.

WOW~ Woman Of Worth

Charman Jean Beasley

was born in Greenville Mississippi.  She grew up in Greenville and Southaven Mississippi. Which is about ten miles from Memphis Tennessee

Charmen & Billy have been married for 15 years and they have two kids Christopher 10 and Carolyn just turned 8 in November.

Charman has lived in many different places. Like: Jacksonville NC, Greenville MS, Hernando MS, Southaven MS, & Branson MO.

But her favorite place would have to be….Bentonville, AR!

”I have to say Bentonville is the best place I have ever lived because It is only a 5 1/2 hour drive from family … I do miss the ocean in North Carolina though… but, I love the Centerton ward.

Charman is a Dental Assistant and in her free time she enjoys fishing and playing Farmville.

One of her most embarrassing moments was when she was little and it is best told in her own words…. “My mom and brother for some reason always called me turkey. So on my first day of school we are taking turns in front of the class saying our names. I did not know my last name so I figured it must be turkey. So, I said my name was Charman Jean Turkey. I bet some of those kids are still laughing at me. I thought I would never get over that.”

Something about me that you would not know is….

“I use to mannequin model for Sears and modeled for World Wide posters in Memphis.

 My mom wanted me to be the next Miss America.

But that was her dream not mine.

 I quit all that stuff when I moved out of her house."

Charman’s dream would be that her kids stay close to the gospel and get married in the temple someday.

 

Of all her callings her favorites are: food storage coordinator, primary, Sunday school secretary,

assistant cub scout leader

 relief society board member, nursery,

& activities committee. 

 But my all time favorite would be

cub scouts and the eight year olds in primary because,

I did not go through primary as a child

so I felt like I was learning a lot teaching the 8 year olds.

Charmans favorite Latter-day Prophet is Gordon B Hinckley. She was able to hear him talk in Southaven MS once and it was wonderful!

 

Charman is an amazing woman with a lot of strength in her young age. We are lucky to have her in our RS and ward. Be sure to grab her in the hall and introduce yourself if you do not already know each other

Does anyone need a Christmas tree?

We have a Christmas tree that  we no longer need.  It is a 7 ft. prelit tree that needs a new home.  First person to come and pick it up can have it!   If you would like to know more about it call  Kate Wilcox 685-5928

Humanitarian Angel Tree and Food Drive

Our Humanitarian activity for the month of December will be to have our own angel tree for the local Women's Shelter. This tree will be set up in the foyer of the church and will be decorated with paper ornaments that have items written on the back. Please take an ornament from the tree, purchase the item(s) listed and return with the ornament to either Kristen Cornelsen, Lyndsay Jensen, Carrie Costello, or Melissa Morales.

We will also be doing a food drive for the shelter. While speaking with them, they expressed a strong need for food donations. Next to our angel tree will be a box where you can drop off any non perishable food items you may be willing to donate. The tree and the food donation box will be at the church this Sunday and all items and food will need to be turned in by Wednesday December 16th. Hopefully through our service we can get the needs of the women and their children at the shelter taken care of, and maybe give them a little something extra as well!

NWACC Needs Pianist for 20 min.

The college is needing someone to play piano for an Event on Friday December 11, starting at 3:45 for 20 minutes. They are just wanting someone who can play Christmas music. Book Group Reminder

Book Group is this Thursday, December 3rd at 8:30 pm at Lacey Schofield's house.  The book we are discussing is The Santa Letters by Stacy Gooch-Anderson.  Here is a brief overview of the book:

Bentonville Christmas Parade

Downtown Bentonville is hosting its annual Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 5, at 11am.

2009 Parade Theme – Songs of the Holidays

With over 90 entries, including floats and marching groups, this is one of the largest daytime parades in the state. Schools, civic groups, corporations and small businesses, churches and nonprofits all participate. It is truly a community event! Come down early and stick around after the parade for family activities on the Downtown Square.

Peel Mansion

Today when we went through the Peel Mansion (by Bentonville Wal-Mart) two things came to light.

1. Dec 9 & 10, from 4-7pm they will host an open house. (No charge)
2. It looks like the “Director” for the mansion will be retiring in the very near future, possibly the next few weeks.

If you like history, fund raising, working with volunteers and directing the restoration of the mansion, this could be a very nice position.

If interested, you would need to contact the volunteers at the mansion and get the information on who to contact on the board of trustees.

You're Invited to the Nativity and Noel

A Christmas Tradition: The Ozark Mormon Chorale invites you to the "Nativity and Noel".  Come feel the spirit of Christmas through the gift of music. On Friday and Saturday we will have community events with 4-5 choirs each night. Prior to the Friday & Saturday performances, there will be time to walk through the Nativity room, where there will be many different nativities on display. On Sunday we will have a special Christmas Fireside.

Free Dog

The Copher family has a dog to give away if anyone is interested. She is a 2 year old Border Collie who has been spayed and obeys very well. She is very good with kids and loves to play with them. She will require someone with a large yard and time to take her for walks or play with her. Border Collies are awesome dogs, but need interaction and a way to burn energy on a regular basis. We just have too many dogs and need to thin them out.

Volunteer Opportunity on Thanksgiving

Dave and I signed up to volunteer at Salvation Army in Bentonville on Thanksgiving morning from 8am-11am. Originally, two of his family members were going to be volunteering with us, but they have pulled out. We have 2 spots that need to be filled so we don't leave Salvation Army in a crunch with not a lot of time to find someone. Our time slot is to help in the kitchen with food prep. They have asked that only teens and adults assist in the kitchen.

Kendall Lindsey is Home!

We got to come home today after 10 long days of roller coaster care at a wonderful hospital! Kendall's fluid is absorbing on it's own and so we THANKFULLY didn't have to drain her lung. Chest tubes hanging out of my baby wouldn't have been fun. They did insert a PICC catheder (IV that goes almost right to her heart, with it hanging out above the inside of her elbow) and we will be doing IV antibiotics for about 3 weeks depending on her weekly blood work. She won't return to school until after Thanksgiving but we are really looking forward to having to keep her from playing too hard now that we are home. We just wanted to thank you all for the emails, service to our family while we were gone, thoughts and prayers. You have no idea how they helped us through this scary and stressful time in our lives.

Anyone interested in getting Similac Advanced Infant Formula at a great price? I just recently stocked up on 6 tubs of it from Sam's and then the following week found out our little girl is allergic to it so we are now on Soy. In case you are wondering, these tubs have the blue snap lid and are 34 oz (a little bigger than the ones sold at Walmart) and are still sealed shut. Baby Asuquo

Congratulations to Charlotte and Ete on the birth of their new baby boy!  He was born on Nov. 9th and weighed 7lbs 6 oz and was 20 3/4 inches. He was born at home with the help of their wonderful midwife, and he is doing marvelously. They are still deciding on the perfect name for their little angel.

MINIVAN FOR SALE

We are looking to sell our 2007 Hyundai Entourage GLS minivan. It's silvery blue, in great condition, and has 35,400 miles on it. We just need to back off to one car since we are still unemployed...it's a nice van and we wouldn't be getting rid of it if we didn't have to.

The only thing that bugs me right now is the fuel gages working with the transfer switch. The transfer switch works and transfers the tanks well. The front tank gage reads fuel but by the time it gets about 4-5 gallons down it says empty. When switched to the rear tank…never gets off of empty. Just have not played with that one yet.

I have done all the stuff you would need to do if you had bought this truck…I will never get out of it what I put into it. Hey…you benefit!! Safety first.


Why am I selling my project truck…buying a home and do not have time for it. Wife has other projects for me. I was buying parts over last fall and winter waiting for spring to get here to work on it….now someone can buy this truck (and all the parts that come with it) and in a few weekends will have a nice rig.

Our numbers for the November discussion of The Lost Symbol were small, but we had a great time! Thank you Dana for hosting...it was great to meet your sister, and we really enjoyed the chocolate fountain!

For December we will be reading The Santa Letters by Stacy Gooch-Anderson. Here is a brief overview of the book:

Sister Sabrina Davitt

...Was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, her dad was in the military so she grew up in a lot of places. Like Arizona, New Mexico, Alaska, California, & England.

Sabrina has 5 sisters and 1 brother. She is number 5 in the bunch.

Her favorite place to live would have to be Idaho. That was the first place she lived on her own and she feels it is just beautiful there.

 It is also where she met her husband. =)

Her favorite colors?  At the moment ... are Red and Purple.

Her favorite food?

With out a doubt is...Pasta Roni’s Shells and While Cheddar.

Youth Wrestling

For those who may not be aware, there is a youth wrestling club in Bentonville for ages 5 and up. The first practice/orientation will be this Thursday (Nov 5) at Barker Middle School. Wrestling is a popular sport for kids across the nation, but is fairly new to Arkansas. If you have any interest, please let me know. There are several coaches helping out--among them are myself and John Visser (from the Stake High Council).

The practices are Mon, Tue, and Thur at 6:00 pm. The Tuesday practice will be for the more experienced/serious wrestlers. The cost is $65/wrestler.

Candy needed for Humanitarian Service Project

The upcoming project for Humanitarian is making little countdown to Christmas chains for some children at a local shelter.  For this project to be a success, we need donations of plastic Saran Wrap and individually wrapped candies.  All the Halloween candy is now 50% off at Walmart, so it would be a great time to go and buy a bag or two to donate.   =)  Of course, the Christmas candy is now out, so if you want to go more festive, you can buy the Christmas candy, too.  (Things like Hershey kisses, bite size candy bars, or Starbursts are ideal.)

If you are willing contribute, please give donations to Kristen Cornelsen, Melissa Morales, or Lyndsay Jensen.

The date for this activity is next Thursday, November 12.

Can You Help with Babysitting for Temple Trip?

See message below from Edie Atkinson:
Dean and I are interested in attending the ward temple day on the 14th, but would really like to go together this time. We are looking for somebody who is not going to the temple on the 14th but would be interested and willing in watching our two boys ages 6 and 2 the day of the temple trip. Another idea is that we would be willing to swap children with another couple and watch their kids while they go to a session, and then they would watch ours while we go through.

Annual Centerton Ward Fall Festival/Chili Cook-off Sign-ups

Are you ready for the annual Centerton Ward Fall Festival/Chili Cook-off?? We are looking for volunteers to bring Chili, Cornbread, and Desserts. This year we are trying out an online sign-up system. The Illustrations of ARD HOYT

This was in the newspaper this morning!  If you haven't check out Ard Hoyts's childrens books, be sure and do so!!  He's a very talented artist.

Inspired by Place: The Illustrations of ARD HOYT and Cara Armstrong presents artwork by two children’s book illustrators who celebrate the people and places that make us feel at home. Ranging from a dog’s-eye-view of Frank Lloyd Wright’s residential masterwork Fallingwater, to a little boy’s dreamtime swim with manatees through his home, the artwork in the exhibition represents both the imaginative fantasy and emotional warmth that characterizes the best work in children’s literature.

Inspired by Place is the first gallery exhibition for both Hoyt and Armstrong and will include videotaped interviews with both artists.

CRYSTAL BRIDGES: A special preview and reception of "Inspired by Place: Illustrations by ARD HOYT and Cara Armstrong" will take place from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday at Crystal Bridges at the Massey, 125 West Central Avenue. A discussion with the artists will take place prior to the event at 5:30 pm at the Bentonville Public Library. The collection will be displayed through Jan 3. 2009 Clothing Drive and Clothing Give-Away

2009 "Clothes Line": Clothing Drive & GIVEAWAY is next  Saturday.

So what is it? The evening of  November 6th, Carl, Desiree and volunteers are going to empty their store  (leaving some of their own donations) and restock with over 8,000 articles of  clothing to be given away on November 7th. The store will be open to  anyone. It is our goal to give every single article of clothing away. There will be mens, women and children clothing in all sizes.  The clothing will be on hangers and arranged just like a any clothing store so  that shopping will be easy for the families.

A grassroots NWA citizens helping citizens. Ya gotta love it. You can help.  Here is a list of some of items still in need:  Volunteers to help tear down and set up Friday evening November 6th and Saturday evening November 7th Volunteers to help during the event  November 7th Volunteers to contact organizations, churches  and businesses to make sure that the citizens of NWA most in need are aware and have a way to get here.

Trunk or Treat Primary Activity

TRUNK OR TREAT

Saturday, October 31st from 4:00-5:30 at the church.

• Costume Contest
• Trunk decorating contest
• Activity for the kids

This is a family activity.  Stay and help your child with the craft and then the trunk or treat will start about 4:45.  Remember to decorate your trunk for the contest. Please bring candy to pass out for the TRUNK-R-TREAT. There will be a Costume Parade so don't forget your cameras. Come and join in the fun!!
