Humanitarian Service
Childhood hunger is a current problem in our area. The Samaritan
Community Center serves over 5,000 kids in Northwest Arkansas who are at
risk for malnutrition with their snack pack food program that serves
at-risk children. During the entire month of October, the Humanitarian
Committee will have a snack pack food drive to contribute to this
effort. Donation boxes will be at church next week and throughout the
month. Every little bit helps. In addition, we will be placing boxes
at local businesses to help the cause as well. Here is a current list
of items to be donated (everything must be non-perishable):
- Fruit Bars
- Fruit Cups
- Fruit Snacks
- Small Cereal Boxes
- Cheese Crackers
- Pudding Cups
- Oatmeal packets
- Microwave Pasta
- Ramen Noodles
- Animal Crackers
- Beef Jerky
- Individual Pretzel Packets
- Other Individually Packaged Snacks
"When ye are in the service of your fellow beings, ye are only in the service of your God."

OPERATION BACKPACK!
The Samaritan Community Center is organizing its annual backpack drive for school supplies for needy children from elementary through high school. The event is Aug. 11th from 10am-1pm. There is an urgent need for more supplies. The Center has asked our church to provide:
Scissors (goal 2,250)
Pocket Folders with brads (goal 6,750)
Spiral Notebook- Wide-Ruled (goal 2,250)
We need the supplies by the end of July. A collection box will be available for the next few Sundays at the Centerton Building, starting this Sunday July 15. Please consider donating what you can for this cause. There is also a need for 80-90 volunteers to help organize the supplies and pack them into the backpacks on Wed. Aug. 8. If you are free in the morning or afternoon to help with this community service project please let Sister Rachael Andrews (Humanitarian Service Committee) know. We will also pass along a sign-up sheet. This would be a great family or youth project as well.
In addition, the Samaritan Community Center would like our church to provide a carnival-type booth for the event. Other churches are setting up booths with face painting, water games, etc. We will be able to pass out information about the church at the event as well. If any of you are aware of or have skills in balloon shape making, access to a snow cone machine, etc or would like to help with the booth please contact Sister Andrews (andrews.rachael@gmail.com).
The Samaritan Community Center anticipates over 2,500 will be at the event. It will be a wonderful way for people in the community to feel the love of Christ through our service.

KANSAS CITY TEMPLE OPEN HOUSE
Saturday, April 7 – Saturday, April 21, 2012
Event Description
The public is invited to visit the temple during an open house from Saturday, April 7, until Saturday, April 21, 2012, excluding Sundays. Free reservations can be made through templeopenhouse.lds.org. The temple will be formally dedicated on Sunday, May 6, 2012, in three sessions. The dedicatory sessions will be broadcast to congregations of the Church within the temple district.
Temples differ from the tens of thousands of local meetinghouses throughout the world where members typically meet for Sunday worship services and midweek social activities—and where visitors are always welcome. Temples are used solely for the performance of sacred ordinances and religious instruction aimed at strengthening members’ relationships with God, their family, and others around them.
To members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, temples are houses of the Lord, the most sacred places on earth. Temple services bind families together forever, teach the purpose of life, and explain God’s plan of salvation.
Temple attendance strengthens Latter-day Saints’ commitment to living Christian principles, emphasizes personal spiritual growth, and increases devotion to family.
Tickets
Free reservations are required for this event.
Beginning on Monday, March 12, 2012, reservations may be obtained over the Internet or by calling 801-570-0080 (locally) or toll-free 1-866-537-8457 (1-866-LDS-TIKS) beginning at 9:00 a.m. and concluding at 6:00 p.m. (mountain time).
Special Considerations
What to expect during an open house tour:
Plan to arrive early to allow time for traffic and parking your vehicle.
Open house tours will begin in the tents adjacent to the temple, where a 10-minute video will be presented. This video will provide an overview of temples and why they are significant to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Following the video, a tour host will escort you to the temple. As you walk through the temple, the tour host will explain the purpose of each room, answering questions as time allows.
Guests with an official disability plate or placard or those who need wheelchairs or other assistance will be directed to parking near the temple entrance. A limited number of wheelchairs are available at the temple.
After concluding the tour, you are invited to return to the tents for light refreshments and to have any further questions answered.
Children of all ages, including children in strollers, are welcome.

LOOKING FOR A TWIN BED
I am looking for a twin bed. My neighbor told me today that her daughters bed fell apart and she is now sleeping on a mattress on the floor. She doesn't have the money to buy one new and was hoping to buy one for cheap or even better get one that someone was throwing out for free. She has a good mattress and is only in need of a twin bed or a twin frame.
