SHOTS FOR DOGS OFFERED THIS WEEKEND

Centerton will host a rabies clinic from 10am to noon Saturday at Centerton City Park.

Rabies shots for dogs will cost $7. Wormer will be offered for $8. Other shots also will be available.

City Park is at 290 North Main Street.

SMITH BABY HAS ARRIVED

We are excited to announce that Jeff and Ashley Smith are the proud parents of a beautiful baby boy. Wyatt Stuart Smith was born on Monday, March 28th. He weighs 9 pounds and 3 ounces. Both Ashley and Wyatt are doing fine :)

DINNER AND AUCTION- THIS FRIDAY!!

Don’t forget this Friday is our Young Womens Camp Fundraiser Dinner and Auction. We will be serving dinner starting at 6:30 pm. You will actually be waited upon by your Beautiful Ward Young Women.

We will have a silent auction going on including some super awesome home décor boards including FHE Boards, awesome sayings as some fun sparkly boards…guess who had that idea with the sparkle.

We will have a bake sale with the option to place orders for future use ,including cookie dough for future baking. The cinnamon rolls from last year will be making a reappearance for sale orders as well.

We will have super cute hairbows, jewelry and other stuff for purchase as well.

There will also be an open bidding auction for the Young Women services that they are volunteering. Including some overnight babysitting, music lessons, possible party planners and much much more.

We will also be auctioning off the entire young womens for a 5 – 6 day on a Saturday to help out with any project that you just do not want to do yourself.

Please come and support your ward young women and have some dinner and fun while you are there.

NEW CARSEAT GUIDELINES

Dear Sisters,

As many of you know, I am a Child Passenger Safety Technician. The big news in the car seat world is that the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) made some changes to their guidelines (published online in the April 2011 issue of Pediatrics). Parents are now advised to keep their toddlers in rear-facing car seats until they are at least 2 years old. The AAP also recommends that most children still need to ride in a belt positioning booster seat until they have reached 4 feet 9 inches in height and are between 8 and 12 years of age.

You may have heard about these changes and have questions or need help. I’m offering my help to anyone who would like it! Even if your child is in the correct type of seat for age/weight/height, 9 out of 10 seats are not installed properly and I can help there as well. Please feel free to call or email me with questions and I can help keep your family safe in the car.

How Do I Watch?
There are many ways to watch or listen to conference. Each semiannual general conference is broadcast worldwide, and all are invited to participate.

Many local cable and radio stations make the conference available, bringing conference right to subscribers’ homes. Visit http://www.bonneville.info/ for broadcast information or check local listings.

The website byu.tv also carries live broadcasts of conference.

Live streaming of conference, as well as archived video, are available at the LDS Broadcasting website.

The Church’s online Mormon Channel will broadcast the Saturday and Sunday morning and afternoon sessions live on April 2 and 3.

Depending on where you live and what language you speak, shortly after conference, you can stream conference audio or video or read conference talks in your own language on the Church’s general conference website.

Within four hours after a conference session concludes, audio files of that session are available in more than 70 languages. More information on what and when conference materials become available can be accessed online.

GENERAL YW BROADCAST

All young women ages 12-18, their mothers, and Young Women leaders are invited to attend the General Young Women Meeting on Saturday, March 26, 2011.

The meeting will originate from the Conference Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. The live meeting will be broadcast by satellite to meetinghouses worldwide and on the internet at www.lds.org/broadcast.

COOK A HEALTHY MEAL
FROM A CAN

ALL STARS IN A CAN

Break out the can opener! These products deliver nutrients and great flavor to recipes.

PUMPKIN: Packed with vitamins and fiber, canned pumpkin is low in calories and fat and is delicious in both sweet and savory recipes.
Money saving tip: If you don’t use the whole can, freeze leftovers in ½ or 1 cup servings for future recipes. Store in ziplock bags for up to three months.

TOMATOES: Cooked tomatoes have more readily absorbed disease-fighting lycopene than fresh ones do.
Money saving tip: If you need diced tomatoes and canned whole ones are cheaper, use kitchen shears to dice the whole tomatoes right in the can.

SALMON: Full of protein, all-important omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D and calcium, the fish is already cooked and ready to eat.
Money saving tip: Wild salmon is healthier than farmed, but fresh is expensive. Canned wild salmon is a bargain at about $4.40 for 6 ounces, compared with $6.75 for fresh.

BEANS: It’s hard to find a more versatile and healthy food in a can. Pick your favorite: Black, white, kidney- they’re all full of protein, fiber, iron and more.
Money saving tip: the different types are mostly interchangeable. If you see one on sale, stock up and use it in your favorite dishes.

PINEAPPLE: Sweet, tangy and refreshing, it’s a great source of vitamin C, manganese and other nutrients.
Money saving tip: Buy pineapple that’s packed in 100 percent juice. When you drain the fruit, save the juice and use it in a smoothie or in a marinade for pork.

LEAVE IT ON THE SHELF

Some foods just don’t hold up to canning—texture surfaces or the flavor fades, or both. With these foods, fresh or frozen are better but for food storage canned is better than not having it.

QUILTING CLASS

We had a great turnout at our meeting this month and I really enjoyed visiting with the sisters—especially those from the Branch that I don’t get to see anymore. But we had a conflict with the Branch while they were setting up for their quarterly meeting. So, we have decided to try it on a different day and we are going to add an evening session, as well. We will be having the quilting class on the 4th Tuesday of each month from 9-11 am and 7-9 pm at the church. That way, those that work or have too many things during the day will have a chance to come after their husbands get home if they want to.

The next class will be on Tuesday, April 26th at the times listed above. The block we will be working on is called the Spinning Four Patch. I have copied and pasted what the block looks like and the material list below. The sisters who attended decided to try to get it cut out before the class, so they can have more of a chance to sew and finish the block before they leave. If you are comfortable doing this, go ahead. If you have questions, or are afraid to try, I can help you with the cutting during class. I will have a copy of the full instructions for you at class.

Also, I have lots of scrap fabric if you want to use some just to see if you like making this block before you go buy anything. Just let me know, so I can bring something to class for you. I will bring my machine, rotary cutter and mat for anyone who would like to use them during class, as well.

We have a couch, double chair and ottoman that we are giving away. The ottoman has a rip in it, and they are a little worn but in pretty good condition. We are willing to give it to someone in the ward before we take it to Goodwill.

RS BDAY BASH- TOMORROW NIGHT!!

We wanted to send one last invitation to the Relief Society Birthday party this Thursday because you’re important and we want you to come! Come celebrate a history of love, service and support. And who knows? You might even make a new friend!

Dinner starts at 6:30 pm followed by some special birthday activities. Childcare is provided.

Stuff Swap opens at 6:00 so comb your house for any gently used items you’d like to share! You’re welcome to take something you like even if you don’t bring anything and all leftovers will be taken to a local charity at the end of the evening.

STAKE GARDEN PLOTS

The Rogers Stake will continue the "Corn Farm Project" this summer. The corn will be planted in the gardens located at the Centerton Ward site. This year we plan to plant a little more than five acres of sweet corn for member use.

Individual garden plots will also be available. If you would like to reserve a plot for your family, please contact Brother Tim Isabell (644-8281) no later than April 1st.

The stake will continue to provide water, and faucets are located at central sites; however, families will need to furnish personal water hoses to get the water to their plots. An electric fence has been installed to keep deer and raccoons away from the plants. Gates are provided to allow access into the individual plots.

All who are interested are encouraged to become involved. If you are unsure about starting a garden, the Ensign recently published a great article Seeds of Self Reliance that offers great suggestions on gardening in limited space and gardening on a budget, etc. etc.

You may have as many plots as you need--each family is responsible for watering, weeding and maintenance of their own plot. The ground will be plowed, harrowed, and disked. We are setting a goal to be ready for planting by April 1—weather permitting, but water will not be available until April 15 due to potential late freezing.

HUMANITARIAN UPDATE

Dear Sisters,

First off, we want to express our gratitude and appreciation to everyone who has helped us with our project for Youth Bridges and the Stake Humanitarian Day. We have been so overwhelmed with all of your support, donations, and time. We want to give a big Thank You to the our Young Women for their donations and for coming to our Humanitarian Night last Thursday and helping us with the bags.

We are so happy to report that we have not only meet but have greatly exceeded our goals for a majority of the items on our wish list. The only items that we are low on are:

• combs

• hand towels

This is pretty phenomenal and we know that we can get these last few goals meet in the next week and a half. You can bring any donations to the church on Sunday or you can drop them off at the home of Jill Manning or Lori Hill.

Sam and Heidi Stewart of Bentonville 2nd ward have cut down trees in their backyard. They have very kindly offered the wood to whomever can use it. They will not be keeping it long. If you, or anyone else you know, has a use for it, please contact Heidi at 479-366-3152. They are very close to Walton and Tiger Blvd.
