....if so, then head on over to the Stake Center at 6:00pm for a stake activity.  We will participate in FAITH FACTOR, a fun version of the TV show Fear Factor.  This activity is for the family, and it's sure to bring lots of laughs and cheering for your team! 

Please bring a treat to share.  Also, please bring one set of scriptures per family.

Parenting Skills Class

You’ve probably heard through the grapevine that Shannon Ward is coming back to present and train again. On Friday, April 30th, she is doing the free 2 hour seminar again from 7-9pm at the community room, next door to Insurance Agency at Sugar Creek in Bella Vista. (this is on your left at the light where the gas station is BUT YOU CAN’T TURN LEFT AT THAT LIGHT!!). This is for those who missed the first one.


She is also providing the six week course (in six hours, she normally does it one hour/wk) on Saturday, May 1st from 9-4pm (1hr for lunch). I am still working on the location and will update. The cost for a COUPLE, including the training book and materials in only $35 which is a real deal (hardly covers her costs). For those who haven’t attended the first session, but want to take the six hour training she suggests they come to the Friday night seminar as well so they are up to speed. We have a number of people doing this.

It is very important that if people want to attend the Saturday session that they please show up. The space is definitely limited due to the amount of material being covered and the hands on “workshop” portion. If someone signs up and doesn’t show it means they will have kept someone else from being able to attend. The money can be paid at the door.

Congratulations to Mary Ann and Ryan Stokes on the birth of thier new baby boy!!  Gavin was born last week, weighing 7 pounds 10 ounces.

Reading/Math Tutoring

I am a former first and third grade teacher (turned stay at home mommy--yay!). I have lots of experience in helping little ones improve their reading and math skills. I have been missing working with kids, and was thinking maybe there was someone/a few someones with a kindergarten-fifth grader in need of a little reading or math help. I can help with any area of reading (sight words, phonics, fluency, etc) or math (addition/subtraction, multiplication, fractions, etc). Summer is just around the corner, and I know there's some worry about losing skills over that long break! I would like to tutor in my home. I charge $25 per one hour session. For each session, I will create a lesson plan specifically for your child's needs and we will work hard (and have fun, of course! because learning is fun!).

Follow Up for Centerton 2nd Branch

It is an exciting time to be members of the Church in Centerton! With all the changes that took place today, we want to make sure that we are covered for the next couple of Sundays as we try to get up and running.

We are asking for a little help for at least the next 2 Sunday's. If you were part of the Centerton 2nd Branch today and released from a calling, we are asking that you still prepare to serve in that calling for 1 or 2 more weeks. That means if you were a Primary teacher, please prepare the lesson you would regularly teach in order to have classes next week.

We also need for each teacher/leader to turn in any manuals or keys to the buildings so that the Centerton 1st Ward will have all of their proper materials to keep their ward running.

An Invitation from Bella Vista Ward

You are invited to a Family picnic where guest speaker BERNIE SKOCH is going to speak and answer questions at Blowing Springs in Bella Vista. It’s on April 17th from 5:00 to 7:00pm. Hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, and drinks will be served. Bring a lawn chair. Bernie will be there at 5:00 to eat with us and discuss individually and then speak to the group at 6:00. We are trying to organize a activity for the kids.


Brief Background on Bernie...He is a member of the church in Fayetteville.

He and Debbie, his wife of 38 years, have six children and nine grandchildren. They all are residing here in NW Arkansas. They live near Elkins and own a small business in Springdale called Debbie’s Beehive LDS Bookstore.

Bernie retired as a Brigadier General from the Air Force after 29 years of dedicated service. And he also worked at the Pentagon for 12 years.

He represents Conservative views and has “Solutions” that can turn this country around. He is worth coming to listen to.

RS Activity Reminder

Sisters-

Just a reminder that our midweek Relief Society Activity "Square Foot Gardening" will be this Thursday (4/15) at Brother and Sister Costello's home (directions below). The activity will start at 7:00pm. As the activity will be held outside, you may want to bring a lawn chair, camping chair, or blanket to sit on. Refreshments will be served, but NO childcare will be provided. A 4x4 garden box will be raffled off to sisters in attendance.

For those of you interested in learning even more about Square Foot Gardening, the Bentonville Library now carries 'the' book. We also have a few sisters in our ward who own the book. If you are one of these sisters and are comfortable loaning out your book, please reply all in an email and let everyone know.

This is a great time to learn about gardening in a small space. If you are interested in starting a garden, but don't feel you have the room, Square Foot Gardening could be for you! Also, please remember that if you are looking for a space to garden, you can call Brother Kirk Isabell and sign up for a garden plot at the Centerton Ward Building. Bentonville City currently has compost on hand so there is no time like the present!

Directions to the Costello home (3404 Windy Way Ave in Bentonville): Turn east off of Greenhouse onto Ashton. The 2nd left will be Windy Way Ave. If you get lost while trying to find the home, you can call the Costello residence at 479-616-2850.

Sign Up For Summer Swimming Lessons

If you are interested in signing your children up for swimming lessons this summer, here are two different options.  Both of them are pretty similiar. I believe both are done through the Red Cross. They run approx. from mid-June to mid-August.  You can check out each website for more information.  Sign-ups are going on now in Rogers, and begin approx. May 1st  for Bentonville.

Here are a few questions and answers to help you make your decision:
Q The economy is in tough shape. Many families are struggling to pay bills. Why do we need a millage increase now?

A The need is great. We have more students at the K-4 level than we have seats available in grades 5-6; and we have more students in 5-6 than we have seats for in grades 7-8. Five buildings are already at or above capacity and our student enrollment figures continue to grow. If we do not address capacity issues now, our students will be forced to learn in overcrowded conditions.


Q What will the millage cost me?
A The monthly impact on a $100,000 home would be $6.

Q What is the growth record of Bentonville Public Schools?

A As one of the fastest growing school districts in the state, enrollment has nearly doubled in the past nine years, with more than 13,050 students currently attending Bentonville Public Schools. The District added 500+ students in each of the last two years. Online pre-enrollment for 2010/11 Kindergarten broke the District’s all time record with 880 students, a 19% increase over the 740 students enrolled online last year at this time.


The District currently has more students at the K-4 level than we have seats available in 5-6, and we have more students in 5-6 than we have seats for in 7-8.

Q What does the millage include?

A This millage funds a new K-4/5-6 school and a new 7-8 school. By housing K-4 and 5-6 under one roof, the District saves more than $6,000,000 in construction cost.


Other district-wide improvements include:
• Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system upgrades to all existing schools to improve the indoor air quality in the learning environment for students and teachers
• Exterior and interior repairs to Old High Middle School
• Improvements to Coleman Recreation Center
• Upgrades to theaters at Lincoln Junior High and Washington Junior High Schools
• PE room and classroom additions at Sugar Creek and Thomas Jefferson Elementary Schools
• Site improvements for the 235 acres within the Bentonville Growth Corridor west and northwest of Central Park Elementary
• Generates $420,000 annually in operational revenue.

However you feel about the issue, please go and vote.  EVERY vote counts.  Polls open from 7:30am - 7:30pm.  If you do not know your polling location, call the Benton County Clerk’s Office at 479-271-1013

Brainstorming Ideas for Pursuit of Excellence

Hey Ladies of the Ward!

It is me again, Chelsie Moline, your resident Pursuit of Excellence support system!

I was thinking about getting together with the ladies who are thinking about starting the program. ESPECIALLY any of you who are on the fence, or maybe you just don't know where to start.

You know how there is a book group? (You didn't? Well, email Aubrey Patterson then and get the details because it is FUN)

You know how they all read a book every month, then they get together for an evening of snacks and happiness while they discuss the book?

WELL, I was thinking it would be good to get together with any who want to brain storm about Pursuit of Excellence. Good food, good company, good discussion about ANYTHING that might be confusing to you.

Sound good?

It does to me, too!

May Book Group

Ladies,


Our movie night last week was SO.MUCH.FUN! We had an incredible turnout and I hope everyone enjoyed themselves as much as I did. We will definitely have to do another movie night in the future!

For May, we will be reading The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman. We discussed this book a few years ago, and it was so good, we're going to do it again! This time we will also incorporate The Five Love Languages of Children. You may want to check this one out if you have already read the original book. However, I find that this is a book (the origianal) I read over and over!

We will meet Thursday, May 6th at 8:30 pm. We still need a host! If you would be willing to host in May (or June...or July...) please let me know!

Below is a brief summary of the book:

Unhappiness in marriage often has a simple root cause: we speak different love languages, believes Dr. Gary Chapman. While working as a marriage counselor for more than 30 years, he identified five love languages: Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Receiving Gifts, Acts of Service, and Physical Touch. In a friendly, often humorous style, he unpacks each one. Some husbands or wives may crave focused attention; another needs regular praise. Gifts are highly important to one spouse, while another sees fixing a leaky faucet, ironing a shirt, or cooking a meal as filling their "love tank." Some partners might find physical touch makes them feel valued. Chapman illustrates each love language with real-life examples from his counseling practice.

There is also a questionnaire to help determine your love language.

And remember, in June we are reading Hunger Games and Catching Fire (you really have to read both!) by Suzanne Collins.
