Humanitarian Reminder

Humanitarian service will be held tomorrow (Thursday) at the church.  There are 2 different sessions: from 10-12pm and again from 7-9pm.  We will be tying quilts.  If you've got 2 hours to give, great!  If you've got 30 minutes to give, great!   Your children are welcome, though no childcare is provided.

Marveen Wells is being discharged from Northwest Regional Hospital and will be home this afternoon.  Thanks for your prayers in her behalf.

March Book Group

For March we will meet Thursday, March 4th at 8:30 pm at Chelsie Moline's house. Chelsie is brand new in the ward and we are very grateful to her for hosting! We are reading Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale. This is a sweet, clean young adult novel that you are sure to love!

Here is a brief summary of the book:
When Dashti, a maid, and Lady Saren, her mistress, are shut in a tower for seven years for Saren’s refusal to marry a man she despises, the two prepare for a very long and dark imprisonment.


As food runs low and the days go from broiling hot to freezing cold, it is all Dashti can do to keep them fed and comfortable. But the arrival outside the tower of Saren’s two suitors—one welcome, and the other decidedly less so—brings both hope and great danger, and Dashti must make the desperate choices of a girl whose life is worth more than she knows.

Baby Taglauer

Caleb Matthew Taglauer was born Jan 14th around 7:45. He weighs in at 9 lbs. 14 oz. and is 22 inches long. Congratulations to Jeanette and Andrew!

Donations Needed for Humanitarian

For our humanitarian activity this month will continue to work on tying quilts on February 11th. Last month we were able to finish tying two quilts and made two more quilt tops that we will be working on this month. In order to finish these two quilts we will need the remaining items to be donated. Also, we have learned that full sized quilts are the only need of the humanitarian center in Salt Lake City so we thought while we are at it, we might as well make as many as we can. These items will also need to be donated and since it is easier for some people to donate items instead of time, we are hoping this will be a great way to help through donations.

If you are interested in donating any of the following items please contact Lyndsay Jensen by phone (479) 268-0274 or by e-mail lyndsayjensen@gmail.com to ensure we get the most urgently needed items donated first, and not too many of the same item. If you are wanting to make your own quilt top or finished quilt to donate the Church's guidelines are as follows: Quilt needs to be approximately 90x90 with 1/2 inch seams, and either machine quilted or tied about every 4 to 4 1/2 inches. Suggested materials are cotton, cotton-poly blends, and flannel. Denim and corduroy should be avoided.

Needed Items for our activity on Feb 11th

• 2 Batting size 90x90 (can be bought at Walmart in bags or at Hobby Lobby)
• 2 Queen Sized Flat Sheets to be used as the backs of the Quilts
• Thread

Needed items to make more quilts (we will be using sheets as the tops and bottoms of the quilts)

• Queen Sized Flat Sheets some with prints for the tops of the quilts and some plain colors for the bottom, please contact Lyndsay Jensen to find out what is needed

Baby Hoyt

Congratulations to Alicia and Steve Hoyt on the birth of their new baby girl!  Lucy Patricia Hoyt was born at 3:57am this morning. 7lbs, 18.5" long.

Book Group Reminder

Book Group is this Thursday! I hope everyone had a chance to finish this great book. However, even if you didn't read it...I am certain that you will benefit from our discussion of "coping strategies".

As a reminder, will be discussing Being the Mom: 10 Coping Strategies I Learned by Accident Because I Had Children on Purpose by Emily Watts.

Kindergarten Online Pre-Registration for 2010-2011 Begins on Monday 2/8

Parents of Kindergarten students residing in the Bentonville School District with a student five (5) years of age on or before August 15th, 2010 may begin online registration at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, February 8th through 3:00 p.m. Friday, February 19th, 2010.

* If your child attended a state accredited, quality approved Pre- Kindergarten facility for at least 100 days during both the 2008-09 and 2009-10 school years, and will turn five ( 5 ) years of age between August 15th and September 15th, 2010, they may be eligible for an exemption to attend Kindergarten during the 2010-11 school year, even though they don't meet the state age requirement for Kindergarten enrollment. Please contact the Bentonville Public Schools Director of Student Services at 254-5000 to inquire about this exemption. *

The online registration is a pre-registration only, and students will not be considered enrolled until parents provide the required information listed below to the student's assigned school. NOTE: Final Registration will be March 3rd, 4th and 5th, and parents will be required to bring the following information to the student's assigned school in order to formally complete the enrollment of their child.

To prepare for the enrollment process parents should begin collecting documents for proof of residency, secure the child's Social Security Card, obtain a copy of the child's birth certificate, and begin scheduling appointments for physical examinations and immunizations. All of these items are required and must be presented to the assigned Elementary School before the child is considered a fully enrolled Kindergarten student for the 2010-2011 school year:

1. * Proof of residency (one of the following will suffice):

• Current real-estate property tax receipt and a current utility bill showing parent's name and address
• Rent or lease agreement and a current utility bill showing parent's name and address
• Copies of current utility bills from two different utilities showing parent's name and address

* If the parent does not have one of the above listed items, they must come to the Administration Office at 500 Tiger Blvd. in Bentonville, with documented proof that they reside in the Bentonville School District. Based on the documents provided, the District Office will provide the necessary paperwork to complete the enrollment process.

2. A copy of the child's birth certificate

3. A copy of the child's Social Security Card

4. An up-to-date immunization record. The following immunizations are required:

• A minimum of four (4) doses of (DTaP/DTP/DT/Td/Tdap) with at least one dose administered on/after the child's 4th birthday.
• A minimum of three (3) doses of (OPV/IPV) with the last dose administered on/after the child's 4th birthday. (A child, who has received 4 or more doses of polio vaccine, does not have to receive a dose of polio vaccine after their 4th birthday.)
• Two (2) doses of (M/MR/MMR- Measles) with the first dose on/after the child's 1st birthday and the second dose at least 28 days after the first dose and prior to the child entering Kindergarten.
• Three (3) doses of Hepatitis B prior to the child entering Kindergarten.
• Two (2) doses of (Varicella-Chickenpox) with the first dose on/after the child's 1st birthday and the second dose at least 28 days after the first dose and prior to the child entering Kindergarten.

IMMUNIZATIONS LISTED ABOVE MUST BE COMPLETE BY AUGUST 1, 2010 FOR A CHILD TO BE ASSIGNED TO A KINDERGARTEN CLASS.

5. A current physical examination (within the last 24 months)

A CURRENT PHYSICAL EXAMINATION MUST BE ON FILE AT THE STUDENT'S SCHOOL BY AUGUST 1, 2010 FOR THE CHILD TO BE ASSIGNED TO A KINDERGARTEN CLASS.

Kindergarten sections in Non-Traditional schools are limited. Pre-registration for Non-Traditional schools does not guarantee a student a class placement in that school. If requests are greater than the number of seats available in the Non-Traditional school then a lottery will be used to assign students.

Porter McGary Update

Just wanted to pass along the update on Porter McGary, for those of you who know this great family and have been praying for Porter.

The power of prayer is very real, and the Lord has extended many tender mercies to the McGary's in sparing the life of their son.  When Porter was life-flighted from Guatamala, he had just had a kidney removed (the result of a serious bicycle accident) and the aorta in his heart was weakening and leaking blood.  They were expecting for him to have open heart surgery to replace the artery.  Then a miracle happened. By the time the US doctors ran their own tests, Porter's heart showed no signs of damage.  He did not need heart surgery after all.  He still spent a few days in the ICU and then a few more days as a "regular" patient at the children's hospital in Texas, but he has now been released and they should be heading back home to Guatamala tomorrow.

Thanks for all your faith and prayers.  I know the McGary's have felt them and have been so touched by the outpouring of love and support.
